I was hired on the production of "Dark Matter" by Visual Effects Art Director Cassidy Shipley a while back to help visualize environment concepts for the many parallel worlds depicted in this mind-bending multiverse Apple TV show. All the environments were based on real-world dimensions, making it crucial to achieve a realistic appearance, even though it’s a sci-fi series. For instance, some worlds had a burnt atmosphere, which prevented us from using atmospheric perspective. This presented the challenge of managing levels of contrast typically only seen in space. Working with full-size models of Chicago and city blocks, fluid simulations, and various extreme atmospheric conditions was one of the best learning experiences I've had. I am incredibly grateful to Cassidy, Supervisor AD David Bridson and Production Designer Patricio Ferrel for having me on the team. These cover a few of the illustrations until episode 5.
